Hiram Drops Final DH Of 2024 Season To DePauw

Terriers Hold Lead In Both Games To No. 3 Team In NCAC

GREENCASTLE, Indiana – May 4, 2024 – Hiram finished its 2024 season with a pair of losses to DePauw, 5-4 and 11-6, at Walker Field.

The Terriers held a lead late into the first game and got four strong innings of relief from Matthew Kardos in Game 2, but the Tigers held on for the sweep and punched their ticket to the NCAC Tournament with a 12-4 record in NCAC play.

Game 1

After giving up the first run of the game in the fourth inning, Hiram took a two-run lead thanks to its underclassmen. Logan Gallentine tripled in Evan Fairbanks and John Bender, while AJ Caggiano ripped an RBI double to carve out a 3-1 lead.

The three-run inning was answered with two runs from DePauw, but Hiram again took the lead in the seventh inning. Senior Connor Bansek delivered with an RBI single to bring home Hal Walker Jr., who walked to leadoff the frame.

DePauw scored the game-tying run in the seventh inning and the walk-off run in the ninth inning to earn the win despite being held to nine hits by the Hiram pitching staff.

Game 2

The Tigers scored two runs in each of the first four innings to set the tone in Game 2. Hiram had six runs during that span, which included a two-run double by Ben Yoder, but the home team kept applying pressure throughout the contest.

Kardos provided the bullpen with a boost, working four innings of three-run ball to keep the margin within three-or-fewer runs. DePauw added three runs of insurance between the seventh and eighth innings to secure the Game 2 win.

What's Next

Hiram will now turn its attention to 2025, with a number of key student-athletes set to return to the roster.
