ERIE, Pennsylvania – April 22, 2024 – A big third inning wasn't enough for Hiram in a 9-3 loss to Penn State Behrend on Monday afternoon at Behrend Field.
The Terriers scored three runs in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead in the game, a rally that was set up by singles from
Ethan Ryan and
Hal Walker Jr. John Bender capped off the inning with an RBI single, but the Lions went on to score the final eight runs in the game to secure the non-conference victory.
Penn State Behrend is now 20-9 on the season, which includes a 4-1 record at home.
Hiram's
Colin Olsen made his first career start, working five innings and inducing seven flyouts and six groundouts.
Paul Barrera,
Kaden Anderson and
Landin Wescott combined for three innings of two-run ball in relief.
Bender and Ryan each had two hits to lead the offense, while
Evan Fairbanks added a pair of walks and an RBI of his own on a groundout in that third inning. The Terriers struck out just six times over the nine-inning game.
The Terriers will take the next two days off before returning to non-conference action on Thursday against Baldwin Wallace. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. from Fisher Field in Berea, Ohio.
