ALLIANCE, Ohio – April 13, 2024 – Hiram lost both of its games to Wabash on Saturday afternoon, 12-7 and 17-3, with the Terriers offense recording a double-digit hit total in each game of the NCAC doubleheader.
The twin bill was held on the campus of Mount Union in Alliance, OH; Rafeld-Rogers Field has a turf infield, which made it possible for both teams to play despite the heavy rain this week. Both teams had a big turnout in terms of fans, with the sun shining and positioning in the conference standings at stake.
The Terriers fell behind early in both games: 5-1 through three innings in Game 1 and 4-0 through two innings in Game 2. The Little Giants laid down multiple bunts and balanced it out with a combined 11 extra-base hits in the two games. AJ Reid hit for the cycle in Game 2, which included 5 RBI.
Hiram's offense was consistent throughout; six different student-athletes recorded multiple hits in Game 1, while
Connor Bansek (three hits) and
Logan Gallentine (first career home run) stepped up in Game 2. For the day, Bansek finished with five hits out of the No. 3 spot in the batting order.
The flashes of offense certainly provided some momentum for the team to build upon moving forward, as it now enters a new week that includes six games in six days. That busy stretch starts on Monday, when Hiram travels to Meadville, PA to take on Allegheny at 4 p.m.
