Hiram Gets Valuable Experience Against Defending National Champions

Terriers Lose Twice To No. 1 Trine

ANGOLA, Indiana – March 29, 2024 – Hiram lost both of its games to the defending national champions, Trine University, on Friday afternoon by scores of 10-3 and 9-0 at SportsONE/Parkview Field.

Despite the losses, the Terriers gained valuable experience as they near conference play and look to defend their two consecutive NCAC Tournament titles. Trine is now 22-1 this season and will likely retain its No. 1 spot in the NFCA Division III Coaches Poll.

Game 1 Recap

Hiram scored its three runs in the second half of the game, with Darian Kanno lifting a pair of sacrifice flies between the fourth and sixth innings to score Abriana Schwartz and Hannah Marlow respectively. Kanno finished 1-for-1 on the day, while Schwartz had a pair of doubles.

Angel Santellan accounted for the rest of the offense on an RBI single up the middle in the sixth frame.

Kanno and Trinity Meza split up the pitching duties in the circle, with Meza having a strong showing with just three earned runs allowed over four innings of relief.

Game 2 Recap

The second game of the day put the nation's top talent on full display, with Trine hanging a crooked number in both the first and third innings behind a masterful pitching performance.

Hiram's Kylie Perez and Danielle Robles each collected hits out of the fifth and sixth spots in the batting order, while Kanno showcased her versatility by battling through some traffic on the basepaths while pitching in relief.

Trine's Alexis Michon lowered her season ERA to 1.53 with five shutout innings in the circle.

What's Next

Hiram will make its home debut on Sunday, April 7, when the team hosts Waynesburg for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. from Myrtis E. Herndon Field in Hiram, Ohio.
