TIFFIN, Ohio – March 28, 2024 – The start of the second ever Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship went well for the Terriers on Thursday afternoon at The Heminger Center, as the team beat the host Warriors, 15-6, before falling to the defending champs, Ashland, the second round, 21-4.
Despite the loss in a rematch of last year's GMAC Championship, Hiram remains alive in the double-elimination format, as it will face Tiffin again at 5 p.m. on Friday, with the winner facing Ashland at 7:30 p.m.
After the Terriers saw their seven-game win streak snapped last Saturday with a pair of losses to Ashland and Ursuline, the team bounced back on one of the sport's biggest stages with a win over Tiffin.
Hiram had previously beaten Tiffin, 15-8 on Feb. 18, and matched that performance with another 15 points in the opening round of postseason play.
Ashland remained a formidable opponent and took down Hiram in the second round, but the team – which has been spearheaded by senior
Nina Casalandra – scored four points after not scoring in the previous matchup against the Eagles.
Hiram will recuperate and jump back into competition on Friday; a win would give the program two wins in a single conference tournament for the first time in program history.
