OBERLIN, Ohio - February 3, 2024 - The Hiram women's basketball team fell to Oberlin, 62-46, on Saturday afternoon at Philips Gymnasium.
Despite the loss, the Terriers outscored their opposition, 25-18, in the second half behind an impressive defensive performance that featured at least one steal from seven different student-athletes.
Brooke Hickman led the charge with three of those steals and a team-high six rebounds, while Star Owens chipped in a career-high 12 points off the bench. Diara Parson added 7 points as part of the starting backcourt.
The Yeowomen jumped out to a lead early on courtesy of a 24-point outburst in the first quarter. The home team scored another 20 points in the second quarter; three opposing student-athletes finished the contest with at least 12 points.
Hiram's defense would lead to the game ending on a positive note; Oberlin was held to a 14% FG pct (2-14) in the third quarter and 36% FG pct (4-11) in the fourth quarter.
The Terriers will return to the hardwood on Wednesday, when they travel to Springfield, Ohio to take on Wittenberg at 5 p.m. inside Pam Evans Smith Arena.
