Terriers Fall Short In Tri-Meet With Wooster, Oberlin

Hiram Swimming Gets Final Tuneup Before NCAC Championships

WOOSTER, Ohio - February 3, 2024 - The Hiram swimming teams fell short to Oberlin and Wooster on Saturday afternoon at Timken Natatorium. 

The men's team lost 197-45 to the Fighting Scots and 207-43 to the Yeomen, while the women's team lost 211-35 and 205-41 respectively.

Men's Recap

It was a strong start to the day in the 200-yard medley relay; the team of Dayne Sauter, Jon Hybil, Landon Hughes and Ethan O'Malley finished sixth out of 10 teams with a time of 1:44.48. Owen Pastorius would then place sixth out of 12 student-athletes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.14).

Sauter also shined in the individual events, racing his way to third place in the 50-yard backstroke (25.97) and fourth place in the 50-yard butterfly (25.35). He also joined Hybil, David Slovenkay and O'Malley in the 200-yard freestyle relay – the team placed third with a mark of 1:32.75.

Wrapping up the team's top individual finishes was Jon Hybil in the 50-yard breaststroke (30.24) and Adam Johnson in the 100-yard IM (59.77).

Women's Recap

Moraine Jackson fueled the Terriers in the freestyle events, working her way to strong performances in the 200-yard freestyle (2:18.19), 100-yard freestyle (1:00.35) and 100-yard IM (1:10.30).

Haven Papineau stood out with a fourth-place finish in the 50-yard backstroke (31.76) and fifth-place finish among 13 student-athletes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.78). Elena Rinaldi was in form, too, racing to a 30.42 time in the 50-yard butterfly and 28.40 time in the 50-yard freestyle (28.40).

The team's final relay race involved Natalie Brown, Asa Frush, Madelyn Sagle and Grace Basham in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:06.84).

What's Next

Both teams will now set their sights on the biggest meet of the season; the NCAC Championships will be held from Wednesday, Feb. 14 to Saturday, Feb. 17 inside the Trumbull Aquatics Center in Granville, Ohio.
