GREENCASTLE, Indiana - February 17, 2024 - The Hiram men's basketball team lost to DePauw in its season finale, 89-67, inside Neal Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers were outscored by only 2 points in the second half, as they held strong against a team that won its 12th game of the season.
Trent Jakacki led Hiram with 20 points, which included 10-11 shooting from the charity stripe, while James Moore added 10 points alongside his teammate in the starting backcourt. Moore's four steals in the game were also a season-high – Hiram won the overall battle in steals, 9-7.
DePauw went on a 15-0 run in the first half to take control of the game; the Tigers had four different student-athletes score in double-figures. Grant Niego had a team-high 16 points.
Jakacki finishes the season averaging 21.4 PPG, which ranks 11th for a single season in program history and will rank among the top-25 in all of Division III. It's the highest single-season scoring average by a Hiram student-athlete since Rod Swartz set the program record in 1986-87 (29.3 PPG).
Hiram will now turn its attention to 2024-25, where its young roster will be hungry to make strides against tough NCAC competition.
