HIRAM, Ohio - February 10, 2024 - The Hiram College Terriers men's volleyball team hosted a Hiram Tri-Match on Saturday, which featured three games between Hiram, Arcadia and Olivet.
Hiram finished 1-1 on the day, losing its first match against Arcadia in three sets before having a strong showing in a win against Olivet in four sets. The team is now 7-4 this season, as it looks to continue its great start to the season.Â
Kyle Martini and Garrett Scheidegger were named to the All-Tournament Team of the event.
Arcadia beats Hiram: 25-21, 25-19, 25-19
Hiram was able to keep up with the strong presence that was brought on early in the day by Arcadia, as the Terriers kept the match close in the first set before falling just short, 25-21.
During the second set, Hiram set the tone with an 11-7 lead. After that lead, Arcadia was able to gain control and eventually pull ahead by two sets.
Hiram silenced the offense of Arcadia with a big run on its side, which included a 6-0 run in the third set to take a 13-11 lead. The Knights grinded out the win with a 6-1 run of its own to end the match.
Hiram saw a huge contribution from its upperclassmen, as Martini (9) and Scheidegger (6) led the team in kills while Matthew Albano had 24 assists. Jarod Leynes was able to get six digs over three sets played, too.
Hiram beats Olivet: 25-20, 25-14, 23-25, 25-19
In Hiram's final match of the day, the team was ready to compete as they had a smooth start to the first two sets. The Terriers kept the pressure on Olivet for the entire first set, as they trailed just once in the set.
They kept this fire burning through consistent play on both sides of the court in the second set. Brooks provided some of the highlights with three straight services aces during that span.
Olivet would come back in the third set with some clutch play in key moments, but Hiram finished the match in the fourth set thanks to its defense, notably with six block assists.
Martini (23) led the match in kills, but Scheidegger (10) was not too far behind. Albano played incredible as well, as he was able to get 41 assists during the match while also co-leading the team in digs (6) with Martini.Â

Hiram will be at home for its next matchup against Mount Union on Tuesday starting at 7 p.m.
