HIRAM, Ohio – December 9, 2024 – The holiday season made its way to Price Gymnasium on Monday evening, as the Terriers celebrated their annual "Holiday Game" by beating Thiel in dominant fashion, 88-55.
Brooke Hickman put her name in the record books following the one-sided affair, posting the first ever 30-point, 20-rebound game in program history. The 30 points tied a career-high for the senior from Mentor, OH (30 points vs Franciscan in December 2023), while the 20 rebounds marked a new career-high for a single game.
Hickman joins five other student-athletes in program history to have recorded 20+ rebounds in a single game: Kathy Kilbert (twice in 1982), Charity Norman (2001), Erica Johnson (2018), Michelle Drummond (1986) and Becky Kilbert (1985).
The bench contributions also provided the Terriers with a major lift;
Sarah Seaman had 14 points, three rebounds and four assists, while
Avril Drew had 11 points and five rebounds. The team also combined for 14 steals, which was its most in a home game for the 2024-25 campaign.
Hiram came out firing in the first quarter, shooting 56% from the field during that span and putting itself on pace to score 100 points for the entire game.
Anastasia Lawler scored 8 of the team's first 14 points and Seaman scored the last five points in the quarter to give the Terriers a 25-16 lead.
Hickman emerged at the start of the second quarter, scoring the first five points by either team in the quarter to give Hiram a 30-16 lead, its largest of the contest. The center scored 9 points in the second quarter alone, a span that saw the home team lead by double-digits for almost the entirety of the period.
The Terriers held Thiel to just 7 points on 23% shooting in the third quarter and finished the period on a 7-0 run. Through three quarters, Hiram led by 26 points (66-40).
Hickman put the finishing touches on her 30-20 masterpiece over the final 10 minutes of the game; her 11 offensive rebounds were also a career-high. With the lead continuing to grow, Hiram had 15 different student-athletes log action in the non-conference game.
Hiram now leads the all-time series against the Tomcats, 29-20. The teams first played in Hiram's inaugural season in 1974-75 under head coach Edna Mangum.
The Terriers will begin a three-game road trip on Wednesday, when they travel to Sharon, PA for a non-conference matchup against Penn State Shenango at 6 p.m.
