Hiram Turns Defense Into Offense, Begins Holiday Week With 80-38 Win At Hilbert

Terriers Record 20+ Steals In Road Win For 2nd Straight Game

HAMBURG, New York - November 26, 2024 - The holiday season couldn't have had a better start for the Hiram College women's basketball team, as the Terriers recorded 20+ steals for the second straight game as part of an 80-38 win over Hilbert on Tuesday evening at the Brad Hafner Recreation Center.

The Terriers turned defense into offense throughout the evening, with 45 of their 80 points coming off turnovers.  Every student-athlete in the Hiram starting lineup had multiple steals, including Diara Parsons, who had a career-high six steals.

Hiram featured balance on the offensive end of the floor; Brooke Hickman (16 points), Anastasia Lawler (15), Sarah Seaman (13) and Avril Drew (10) each scored in double-figures. Hickman also had a team-high 9 rebounds, while Isabella Caceres headed the backcourt and contributed 9 points and a team-high five assists.

Hiram started and finished the game in dominant fashion, holding the opposing to just 6 points in both the first and fourth quarters. The road team trailed in the first quarter, 6-5, before rattling off the next 14 points in the game and never looking back from there.

The offense was clicking on all cylinders between the second and third quarters, shooting a combined 19-32 (59.4%) during that span, which included seven 3-pointers. Lawler, Seaman and Drew found the shooting touch from 3-point range (seven combined 3-pointers), while Hickman and Caceres found multiple high-percentage looks inside the arc.

The Terriers didn't allow a field goal in the fourth quarter until the 3:18 mark, closing out the contest in convincing fashion. Hiram also showcased its deep roster, with 14 different student-athletes logging action in the game.

Hiram will enjoy the rest of the holiday week before beginning conference play next Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. against Ohio Wesleyan at Branch Rickey Arena in Delaware, Ohio.
