Terriers Battle It Out In Alfred Classic Opener

Hickman, Lawler Fuel Hiram In Competitive Battle

ALFRED, New York — November 16, 2024 – The Hiram College women's basketball team fought hard in their first official road game of the season, but ultimately fell to Alfred University, 73-64, in the opening game of the Alfred Classic Tournament.

Leading the charge for the Terriers on the evening was senior center Brooke Hickman, who dominated on both ends of the floor. Hickman posted a double-double, tallying 19 points, 10 rebounds and rounded things out by tying a career-high five blocks.

Junior guard Sarah Seaman provided a nice spark off the bench, knocking down two three-pointers en route to 10 points. Seaman's defensive hustle also resulted in three steals, showcasing her versatility in the matchup.

Junior Diara Parsons made her presence known with nine points on an efficient 4-of-6 shooting. Parsons' effectiveness in the paint helped the Terriers stay within reach during critical stretches.

Anastasia Lawler was a force on the glass, pulling down a game-high and career-high 11 rebounds to go along with her nine-point effort. It was these efforts that helped Hiram gain 19 second-chance points, keeping the game within striking distance.

The Terriers and Saxons were tied after a hard-fought first quarter, but Alfred would capitalize on a strong second period to take control. Hiram outscored Alfred 20-15 in the third quarter, cutting the deficit, but a late surge from the Saxons sealed the Terriers' fate, leaving the final score at 73-64.

The Terriers will regroup and prepare for their next match up against SUNY Delhi on Sunday; tip-off time is set to be 4:30 p.m.
