GRANVILLE, Ohio - October 5, 2024 - A 12-minute, four-goal surge of offense proved to be too much for Hiram on Saturday, as the Terriers battled in their conference opener but ultimately fell to Denison, 4-0, at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium.
The Big Red entered the match ranked No. 17 in all of Division III, according to the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. They lived up to that ranking by scoring all four of their goals between the 29th and 40th minutes, with four different student-athletes accounting for the production: Eli Taylor, Henri Heyes, Niko Argyros and Michael Sullivan.
The highlights for the Terriers came in the second half, when the defense and goalkeeper Tyler Jurgensen held strong and fended off all six of the opposition's shots on goal during that span. Jurgensen finished the day with a career-high 10 saves.
The loss snapped Hiram's five-match unbeaten streak, which was its longest since the start of the 2012 season.
The Terriers will look to bounce back on Wednesday, when they host The College of Wooster at 7 p.m. from Henry Field in Hiram, Ohio.
