CRAWFORDSVILLE, Indiana – October 19, 2024 – The Hiram football team dropped a conference battle against a formidable opponent, Wabash College, by a score of 56-7 on Saturday afternoon at Little Giant Stadium.
Wabash entered the matchup with a perfect record in both conference play (3-0) and on its home field (2-0). The Little Giants were also coming off a 2023 season that ended one win shy of an NCAC title; the team lost in double-overtime to DePauw at the end of last season.
Hiram fell into an early hole in the first half, 28-0, behind two touchdowns by Kannon Chase and a pair of scores by Connor Thompson. Â Quarterback Brand Campbell tallied 137 yards and three touchdowns through the air throughout the game.
The Terriers defense made an impact to start the second half, with
Alfred Pedro forcing a fumble and
Navion Steadman recovering the ball at the opposing 35-yard line. Hiram now has five fumble recoveries this year.
One big play led to a six-play scoring drive that ended on a four-yard touchdown pass from
Miles Miller to
Anthony Brumbaugh. Miller also found
Casey McClain Jr. for a 14-yard pass to jumpstart the critical drive.
The Little Giants regained their form with four unanswered touchdowns to end the contest, as the depth of the home team's roster shined bright in front of a crowd of over 2,000 fans.
Next, Hiram will get a golden opportunity against a team it nearly beat last season; the Terriers will travel to Delaware, Ohio for a matchup against Ohio Wesleyan next Saturday at 12 p.m. at Selby Stadium.
