HIRAM, Ohio – October 12, 2024 – The Hiram College women's volleyball team showed resilience in a four-set battle against the DePauw University Tigers in a NCAC conference matchup at Price Gymnasium on Saturday.
DePauw (12-6, 2-1 NCAC) narrowly claimed the first set, 25-23, in a back-and-forth contest. They continued to press in the second set, winning 25-20, but Hiram responded with authority. The Terriers dominated the third set, 25-16, thanks to standout performances from Cate Maguire and Brooke Norris. Cate Maguire led Hiram with 14 kills, with a hitting percentage of .314, while Norris contributed 11 kills and an impressive 15 digs.
Though DePauw sealed the match with another tight 25-23 win in the fourth set, Hiram wasn't far from sending it to a decisive fifth set. Its defense and balanced offense kept the Tigers from pulling away, particularly in the third set, when Hiram posted a .265 hitting percentage.
For DePauw, strong performances from Kaiden Harrington and Belle Shelton helped the Tigers edge out the Terriers. Setter Olivia Karwin posted 25 assists, 11 kills and 10 digs.
Kelly Hoffman led the Hiram defensive efforts with 16 digs.
The Terriers will next hit the road for an away match against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
