Hiram Falls To Mount Union In Final Tune-Up Before NCAC Play

Terriers Drop Final Non-Conference Match, 5-0

HIRAM, Ohio – October 1, 2024 – Hiram women's soccer lost to Mount Union, 5-0, on Tuesday evening at Henry Field.

Despite the score, the Terriers had some tough luck in the first half and eventually outshot the Purple Raiders in the second half, 9-7. The Purple Raiders scored their first two goals on an own goal and a penalty kick, but Hiram kept its intensity throughout the match in its final step of preparation before the start of conference play.

Mount Union opened the scoring in the seventh minute, with Logan Godfrey firing a shot that deflected off of Reagan Mory and found the back of the net for an own goal. It marked the first own goal against the Terriers this season.

About 30 minutes later, the Purple Raiders returned to the scoring column on a penalty kick. Hiram had a hand ball inside the penalty area, which gave Godfrey the chance to gain her team a two-goal advantage.

Mount Union had a more conventional way of scoring in the second half, scoring twice in the 63rd minute on goals by Rylee Hutton and Madeline Boulos. In the 75th minute, Paige Klingensmith closed it out with the fifth goal of the contest.

Hiram's Sydney Ladage had a game-high four shots, while Kali Baker had two shots in the match, both of which were on target.

The Terriers will now get set for the start of conference play; they will host Oberlin College on Saturday at 1 p.m., with a celebration for the team's seven seniors taking place during the pre-match festivities.
