EAST STROUDSBURG, Pennsylvania – January 6, 2024 – The Hiram women's wrestling team won two of its five duals on Saturday morning at the ESU Warrior Duals Invitational (
full results here).
The Terriers are now 7-8 in duals this season, with the recent victories coming against Alfred State and Utica.
Freshman
Lexi Doerflinger got the team going with a win at the 101-lb weight class, beating Southern Virginia's Dusti Casperson by fall (1:27) to score Hiram 5 team points.
Mallory Chunat followed suit and won by fall against Grace Royster; Hiram would then win two bouts by forfeit against Southern Virginia before falling just short in the dual, 30-20.
Chunat found the winner's circle again by beating Alfred State's Ethe Hemphill by fall (0:20) as part of the Terriers' 30-5 dual victory over the Pioneers.
One of the closest duals of the day came against Cedar Crest, which ultimately ended in a 26-23 loss despite three different student-athletes picking up a win. Doerflinger won by fall (1:11) against Lauren Jackson,
Kylee Bentley won by fall (1:12) against Leilani Martinez and
Erika Novak won by decision (7-6) against Draydon Charman.
Allydia Byard highlighted the team's final dual, beating Utica's Gillian Mills by fall (1:45) in what turned out to be a 30-0 shutout win.
Hiram will return to the mats on Sunday, Jan. 14 at the Will Abele Women's Open located on the campus of Ursinus College.
