OBERLIN, Ohio - January 3, 2024 - Hiram played a strong first half on Wednesday evening at Philips Gymnasium, outscoring Oberlin by 7 points before eventually losing the game, 81-59, behind a dominant second half from the Yeomen.
The Terriers scored 39 of their points in the first half, 15 of which were scored by Trent Jakacki. The junior finished the night with his first career double-double, including a team-high 23 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
Ivan Yang contributed a double-double of his own with 10 points and 11 rebounds in the starting frontcourt. Sophomore Brock Makrancy led the bench with 7 points in his team debut.
Hiram went on a 10-0 run just past the midway point in the first half to take a 26-22 lead. Makrancy drilled a 3-pointer and Dushawn Hill found the open lane in the paint to cap off the rally.
The Terriers would then finish the first half on an 11-0 run to pull ahead, 39-32, which would be its largest lead of the game.
Oberlin played a complete second half, shooting 60% from the field (18-30) and holding Hiram to a 30% clip (9-30). The Yeomen made all five of their 3-point attempts in the half and had five different student-athletes score in double-figures to pull ahead and claim the victory.
Hiram will look to get back on track this Saturday, when it hosts DePauw at approximately 4 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium (following conclusion of women's basketball game, which starts at 2 p.m.).
