GAMBIER, Ohio - January 27, 2024 -Â It was a close game Saturday, as Hiram traveled to Gambier to face Kenyon in a conference matchup; both teams played hard but Hiram ended up losing by a final score of 81-70.
Hiram was led by its pair of juniors, James Moore and Trent Jakacki, in a game where they both put up 12 points against the Owls. Hiram also had a nice contribution off the bench from sophomore Manuel Devora Violan, who scored 11 points and racked up 5 assists in 26 minutes. The trio combined for 35 of Hiram's 70 points. Â
Moore was able to hit 2 3-pointers while collecting 5 boards for the Terriers. Jakacki also had 1 steal along with 5 rebounds.Â
Hiram was able to keep the game close due to its depth; the Hiram bench outscored Kenyon's reserves, 32-19.
The final result came down to the closing minutes, as Hiram trailed by 6 with 4 minutes remaining (70-64) after a clutch 3-pointer by Moore. Kenyon closed out the game due to the efforts of their own Gefen Bar-Cohen, who scored in key moments and recorded a dunk down the stretch.
The Terriers trailed by as many as 21 points midway through the second half before roaring back and nearly pulling off the victory.
Hiram will continue conference play against Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday at 8 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium.
