Terriers Swimming Posts Historic Sweep Over Heidelberg; Sauter Sets Alumni Memorial Pool Record

Men's & Women's Teams Earn 12th & 13th Wins This Season; Sauter Dominates 100 Freestyle

HIRAM, Ohio – January 26, 2024 – It was a clean sweep for the Terriers swimming teams on Friday evening at Alumni Memorial Pool, as the men's and women's teams beat Heidelberg: 198-32 (M) and 142-98 (W).

The two teams have now combined for 13 wins this season (8 for the men, 5 for the women), which is the most combined wins in a single season in the two programs' history.

Dayne Sauter set the Alumni Memorial Pool record in the 100-meter freestyle (53.30), passing the previous mark held by Grove City's Tim Whitbeck (53.66).

Men's Recap

The men did a little bit of everything to start the weekend, with 12 combined wins between the individuals and relay teams. Sauter led the charge with the new Alumni Memorial Pool record in the 100-meter freestyle, with other first-place results in the 50-meter backstroke (28.63) and 50-meter butterfly (28.36).

Owen Pastorius took firm control of the longer-distanced events, winning the 800-meter freestyle (9:50.46) and 400-meter freestyle (4:38.48). Also picking up individual wins was Henry Hupp in the 200-meter freestyle (2:14.30), Ethan O'Malley in the 50-meter breaststroke (34.79), Jon Hybil in the 50-meter freestyle (26.24), Adam Johnson in the 100-meter backstroke (1:08.35) and Landon Hughes in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:18.37).

The team of Nathan Ratynski, Hybil, Hughes and O'Malley combined to win the 200-meter medley relay (1:59:37) before the team of Jacob Carleton, Joe Krosky, O'Malley and David Slovenkay won the 200-meter freestyle relay (1:50.12).

Women's Recap

The women's team was in a zone throughout the evening, with 8 combined wins to level its dual meet record at 5-5 for the season. Elena Rinaldi spearheaded the Terriers with wins in the 100-meter butterfly (1:17.71), 50-meter butterfly (33.52) and 200-meter IM (3:01.02).

The depth of the team was on full display: Natalie Brown won the 800-meter freestyle (11:04.77), Haven Papineau won the 50-meter backstroke (35.51) and 400-meter freestyle (5:19.19) and Avery Clay won the 50-meter freestyle (31.82).

In the final women's relay race, the team of Clay, Papineau, Rinaldi and Moraine Jackson won the 200-meter freestyle relay with a mark of 2:06.40.

What's Next

The teams will have a quick turnaround, as they both will travel to Wheeling, WV for a tri-meet with Bethany College and Wheeling University on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
