Lawler Shows Shooting Touch In Tight Loss To Denison

Hiram Stays Within Single-Digits For Entire Second Half

GRANVILLE, Ohio - January 24, 2024 - Hiram answered every Denison rally with one of its own, displaying resilience throughout all four quarters before falling just short, 62-57, on Wednesday evening at Livingston Gymnasium.

The Terriers trailed by 11 points in the first quarter before cutting it to a 2-point game at halftime. Hiram would then keep it a single-digit game for the entirety of the second half, coming as close as 2 points from leveling the score in what ended up being a two-possession loss.

Anastasia Lawler had the shooting touch yet again, scoring a game-high 16 points on 5-8 shooting from the field and 4-6 shooting from 3-point range. Brooke Hickman and Ava Mory combined for 20 points and 7 steals in a pair of all-around performances.

After trailing by 7 points through the first quarter, Hiram fought back with a 10-1 run over the final 2:30 of the first half. Lawler capped off the rally with a 3-pointer in the final seconds to move the score to 36-34 at the intermission.

The pendulum of momentum swung back to Denison in the third quarter, as the Big Red went on a 5-0 run to end the period to regain a 9-point advantage. Abby Cooch led the home team with 15 points.

Hiram didn't waste any time in the fourth quarter, rattling off 7 straight points to bring the margin back to 2 points. Lawler knocked down another two 3-pointers and now has 42 3-pointers for the entire season.

Denison would do just enough in the final five minutes to win the game and improve to 14-4 overall this season.

The Terriers will next make the trek out to Greencastle, Indiana for a conference clash against DePauw on Saturday at 1 p.m. inside Neal Fieldhouse.
