HIRAM, Ohio – January 21, 2024 – Hiram women's wrestling hosted its lone meet of the season on Sunday afternoon, providing the team with an exciting opportunity to protect its home mat.

The Terriers were certainly up to the task.

Hiram beat Alfred State (30-0) and John Carroll (25-10) before falling to D'Youville (29-15) inside Price Gymnasium. The results move the team's record in dual meets to 9-9 this season, with plenty more still to come throughout the rest of the winter season.

Mallory Chunat (136 lbs) won the only bout against Alfred State, beating Ethe Hemphill by fall (0:36) to bring a crowded student section to a roar. Chunat immediately established herself early in the bout and maintained that momentum through the finish.

Kylee Bentley (109 lbs) was next to electrify the home crowd, beating John Carroll's Melany Herrera by fall (1:56). Erika Novak (155 lbs) also won by fall (1:37) against Jordan Palmer to lift the Terriers to a 25-10 win over the Blue Streak; JCU had won the previous dual between the two teams earlier this season (24-19).

In the exhibition matches, Lexi Doerflinger won twice, while Chunat and Caitlin Lewis also picked up victories.

Hiram will next travel to Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, where it will participate in the Warrior Duals on Friday and the Warrior Open on Saturday. Start times and full coverage of the event will be posted on hiramterriers.com
