LATROBE, Pennsylvania – January 20, 2024 – Hiram put on a show against its future conference opponents on Saturday at the PAC Preview, beating Saint Vincent (3-1) and Chatham (3-0) to finish a perfect 4-0 throughout the 24-hour event inside the Carey Center.
The PAC Preview is a two-day invitational held on the campus of Saint Vincent College; Geneva, Bethany, Saint Vincent and Chatham are all set to join the PAC in 2024-25. Hiram is joining the conference as an affiliate member.
Hiram is now 4-1 on the season, which is tied for its best 5-game start to a season in program history. The team also went 4-1 to start 2021, a season that ended with an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Hiram beats Saint Vincent College: 26-24, 25-22, 20-25, 25-23
It was a tightly contested match to open the day, as both the Terriers and Bearcats kept the game close in the first two sets, with neither one letting up. Hiram won both sets, but Saint Vincent bounced back in the third. Hiram was able to close out the fourth set on a 5-1 scoring run to pick up the win.
Junior
Kyle Martini had a breakout game on the defensive end against the Bearcats; he set the Hiram College program record for total blocks (10) and solo blocks (6) in a single match.

Jackson Deubner led the team in kills (11 each), while junior Mathew Albano did a good job of setting them up with 33 assists.
Hiram beats Chatham University: 25-17, 25-15, 32–30Â
There was a little more breathing room in the second half of the day; Hiram surrendered just 32 points in the first two sets against Chatham and pulled ahead to a two-set lead. Chatham was able to catch fire in the third set, but the Terriers saved four set points and eventually closed it out.
Junior
Garrett Scheidegger played a pivotal role against the Cougars; he finished with a game-high 13 kills and 5 total blocks. Martini chipped in another 5 total blocks, while Albano had 32 assists.

Hiram will look to take its hot stretch into the next match, when it plays the first home game of the year against Wittenberg on Tuesday at 7 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium.Â
