WOOSTER, Ohio - January 10, 2024 - Hiram started hot and rode that momentum all the way to the finish line in its first conference win of the season, an 87-78 victory over Wooster on Wednesday evening at Timken Gymnasium.
Senior Anastasia Lawler posted a career-high 22 points, while shooting 6-14 from 3-point range. She also recorded 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Junior Brooke Hickman added to the production with her ninth double double of the season, tallying 16 points and 10 rebounds. Hiram was also led by freshman Star Owens, who tied a career-high with 9 points over 18 minutes off the bench.
Senior Alyssa Chritz finished with 26 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 4 steals to lead the Fighting Scots.Â
Hiram ended the first quarter with a 19-8 lead; Lawler scored 8 points during that span, while the defense held its opposition to a 13% shooting percentage (2-16).
The Terriers kept applying pressure on the Fighting Scots for the remainder of the game, scoring 19-or-more points in each of the last three quarters. Maddie Rakestraw was also an integral part of the offensive unit, as she scored or assisted on 31 points in the game. Rakestraw's 7 assists – 4 of which came on Lawler 3-pointers – tied a career-high.
Hiram also received a huge boost from the bench, as it scored 29 points compared to Wooster's 12.Â
Hiram moved to 6-8 on the season and gained ground in the NCAC standings.
The Terriers will next travel to Delaware, Ohio on Saturday to play Ohio Wesleyan University in another conference matchup at 2 p.m. inside Branch Rickey Arena.
