HIRAM, Ohio - September 6, 2023 - The Hiram women's volleyball team lost in three sets to Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday evening at Price Gymnasium: 25-19, 25-11, 25-13.
It marked the start of the Terriers' home schedule, which includes six games on the confines of Hiram College. The team won't return home again until September 27 against Allegheny.
Hiram held the early momentum behind a roaring home crowd, taking a 12-9 lead behind four kills by Emily Richardson (2), Amber Fox and Cate Maguire. Maguire would go on to lead the team in kills for the match (5), while Erin Burke had 8 assists and Brooke Fishback had 16 digs.
Baldwin Wallace held the upper hand for the remainder of the set, going on a 7-0 run midway through before finishing it off, 25-19. Kayla Franks had all 3 of her kills in the first set.
The Yellow Jackets continued to play well in the second and third sets, with four different student-athletes recording at least 8 kills. Hiram fought hard and continued to play with energy in the later stages of the match, but the effort fell short in the non-conference contest.
The Terriers will next play in the NCAC/MIAA Crossover beginning on Friday in Greencastle, Indiana. The team will take on Kalamazoo, Adrian and Trine over the two-day event.
