HIRAM, Ohio – September 23, 2023 – The women's soccer team put together a full 90 minutes of hard-fought soccer on both ends of the field on Saturday late afternoon, cashing in on an early penalty kick and limiting Olivet to just one shot on goal in a 1-0 victory at Henry Field.
The effort comes on the heels of a 1-0 win over Geneva on Tuesday; the team has won consecutive games for the first time this season. Head coach
Kaela Kovanda and company are also one win away from clinching a winning record in non-conference play for 2023.
Regina Dubeansky drew a foul in the penalty area in the fifth minute to set up a golden opportunity to break the scoring barrier. A low-lining shot to the right side of the net was enough to get the job done, as Hiram pulled ahead and the senior Dubeansky officially scored her first career goal.
The defense was a wall on Saturday, holding the Comets to 0 shots in the first half and 5 shots in the second half.
Skyler Huda saved the only shot on goal and earned her fifth shutout of the year (eighth of her career).
Also shining on the offensive end was
Kali Baker, who had a team-high 5 shots and matched Dubeansky with a pair of shots on goal.
Tayleigh Price also had four shots in the game and a number of cross passes that yielded more scoring chances.
Hiram now has matched its most wins in a season since the start of 2016; the program also won 4 games in 2019.
In addition to the win, the Terriers women's soccer program wore green headbands and green ribbons to help support mental health awareness. All ticket sales from the game will go to support this cause.
Mental health awareness is the continuous effort to fight the stigma associated with mental illness, as well as encouraging open dialogue and supporting others. Hiram Athletics would like to thank those who attended Saturday's Mental Health Awareness Game.
Next, Hiram will take on Allegheny College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Henry Field.
