Longar, Allison Stand Out In Loss To Thiel

Hiram Falls, 5-3

HIRAM, Ohio - April 6, 2023 - The Terriers got a strong outing from Jack Longar and a three-hit effort from Tanner Allison – including his fourth career home run – but Hiram lost to Thiel, 5-3, on Thursday afternoon at Fishel Field.

Hiram battled the brisk conditions with an 8-hit day; Hal Walker Jr. also had a pair of hits and runs scored, while Mike Midea reached base twice out of the five-hole. On the mound, Kaden Anderson and Sam Boyle had a pair of scoreless innings out of the 'pen.

Thursday continued the Terriers' 7-game homestand, with 4 more home games scheduled between Saturday and Monday.

Longar made some noise in his first start of the season (fourth of career), working 4.1 innings of 1-run ball. The sophomore retired 9 of his first 10 batters before finishing with a line of 4.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R/ER, 1 BB, 4 K.

Hiram was able to give Longar an early lead on an RBI groundout by Logan Gallentine, who was making his first career start. Thiel starting pitcher Cole Sherwin would settle in and post a quality start of 2 ER over 6 IP.

Allison accounted for the rest of the Terriers offense, lifting a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and solo home run in the eighth inning. The 2 RBI came after Thiel scored 4 runs in the middle innings, putting the score at 5-3 heading to the ninth frame.

Hiram did all it could to come back, with pinch-hitter Aidan Jantz hitting a single to start the inning. The Thiel defense put the game away with a double play and full-speed running catch in the outfield to retire the side.

The Terriers have a quick turnaround, as they will take on Ohio Wesleyan in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
