CRAWFORDSVILLE, Indiana - April 15, 2023 - Hiram and Wabash went down to the wire in Game 2 of a NCAC doubleheader on Saturday, but the Little Giants prevailed in the bottom of the ninth inning and won, 7-6. The Terriers also lost in Game 1, 14-4.
Hiram has 8 more matchups against NCAC competition still to come in the regular season. Overall, the team is 12-15.
Jack Conley was the star of Game 2, working through 6 innings and earning a quality start. Michael Corsillo, Mike Midea and Kobe Hunter spearheaded the offense in that game with 2 hits apiece, including 5 total bases by Hunter (double and triple).
Next up for Hiram is a non-conference matchup at Baldwin Wallace on Monday at 4 p.m.
Game 1 Recap
Hiram started the day with a 1-0 lead, as Logan Gallentine singled down the left-field line and Evan Fairbanks came around to score on a throwing error on the play. Wabash answered quickly with 6 runs in the second inning, including a grand slam by Liam Patton.
The Terriers offense was back in the scoring column in the seventh inning; Aidan Bustillos recorded his first collegiate hit and RBI on a double and Chaisson Marrs drove in 2 runs on a double of his own.Â
Wabash had scored 11 straight runs prior to Hiram's late-game rally, which was enough to earn the Game 1 victory.
Game 2 Recap
Hiram's offense was able to pick the team up in Game 2 with 6 runs on 9 hits. Corsillo and Connor Bansek got the ball rolling with a pair of sacrifice flies before Gallentine returned with an RBI single. Hiram led, 3-1, through three innings.
Wabash would tie the game in the fifth, but Hiram responded with 2 runs in the sixth and 1 run in the eighth. Bansek (groundout) and Gallentine (sacrifice fly) were once again in the middle of the action with a pair of RBI.
The Terriers pitching staff was also on top of its game, with Conley finishing with a final line of 6 IP, 9 H, 3 R/ER, 0 BB, 2 K. Conley has now allowed 3-or-fewer earned runs in 6 of his 7 starts this season. As a team, Hiram surrendered just 5 earned runs in the game.
The Little Giants were able to rattle off 4 runs between the eighth and ninth innings to earn the walk-off win. Michael Galanos had an RBI single through the left side to end the game.
