Conley Has Strong Performance; Hiram Loses Twice To Wilmington

Multiple Players Stand Out In Doubleheader

WILMINGTON, Ohio - March 19, 2023 - Hiram lost both games of a doubleheader to Wilmington on Sunday by scores of 1-0 and 9-3.

The Terriers got a masterful outing on the mound from Jack Conley in Game 1 and three multi-hit performances in Game 2 from Chaisson Marrs, Connor Bansek and Evan Fairbanks.

The losses moved Hiram's overall record to 6-5.

Game 1 Recap

Conley was the star of the show in the opening game, allowing just 3 hits and 0 earned runs over a complete-game effort of 6 innings. The sophomore's 7 strikeouts tied his most in a career game (7 at Allegheny on April 20, 2022).

Wilmington got its lone run in the fifth inning on a RBI single from Evan Kelsey. The run was unearned on Conley's stat line, with Hiram committing an error earlier in the inning.

The offense had a potential rally going in the seventh inning, with Kyle Adams hitting a single and Marrs reaching on a walk. The Quakers would escape the jam, though, and earn the victory in the tightly contested affair.

Game 2 Recap

The Terriers offense struck first in Game 2, with Fairbanks ripping an RBI single down the left-field line to score Hal Walker Jr. in the top half of the first inning. Fairbanks finished the game reaching base safely in 3 of his 4 plate appearances.

Wilmington answered with 8 of its 9 runs in the first three innings of the game; the 2-3-4 hitters in the Quakers lineup combined for 8 RBI. Adams would hit an RBI single to center field to keep the Hiram offense going.

The remainder of the Terriers' production came on a John Bender RBI single in the fifth; Hiram finished with just as many hits as its opposition in the game (10 each). Sam Boyle pitched a scoreless inning of relief to highlight the pitching staff in the loss.

Next up will be an away game against Muskingum on Tuesday at 2 p.m in New Concord, Ohio.
