Hiram STUNT Beats Ursuline, Falls To Ashland In Season Opener

Terriers Pick Up First Win Of Season

TIFFIN, Ohio - February 19, 2023 - The Hiram STUNT team opened its season with a loss to Ashland (17-11) and win over Ursuline (14-1) as part of a Great Midwest Athletic Conference event in Tiffin, Ohio. 

It marks the start of the 5th season in program history and 2nd under head coach Brittany Powelll; the team went 7-5 last year and participated in the Division III Stunt National Championships.

The Terriers scored 3 points in the first quarter against Ashland, notably tying their opposition on partner stunts 1, 2 and 4. They followed with 2 points in both the second and third quarters, scoring on pyramid 2, tying on pyramid 1 and tying on the jump and tumbles (2 and 4).

The team routine in the fourth quarter accounted for the final 4 points. Hiram scored on the jump and tumble 3, pyramid 2 and partner stunt 1, and tied on the partner stunt 2.

In the second game of the day, the Terriers dominated with at least 2 points in every round against Ursuline. They scored on partner stunts (1 and 2), the pyramid (1 and 2) and 3 separate routines in quarter three (also tied on the jump and tumble 1).

The afternoon wrapped up with 6 points in the fourth quarter, which included two separate rounds (3 points in each round).

Hiram will continue play next Sunday, Feb. 26 against Muskingum and Olivet beginning at 12 p.m. in New Concord, Ohio.
