HIRAM, Ohio - February 11, 2023 - Hiram extended its season-long win streak to three games and improved to 3-0 in AMCC play with a victory over Wells College at Price Gymnasium: 25-9, 25-20, 25-14.
The Terriers never trailed by more than 2 points for the entire match, setting the tone early and holding on strong throughout the three sets. It's the second straight season in which the program has started 3-0 or better in conference play, with the 2022 team starting 5-0 against AMCC opponents.
Kyle Martini had 12 kills and Jackson Deubner recorded 11 kills to lead the team. Matthew Albano finished the afternoon with a season-high 38 assists, while Brian Freidt tied a season-high with 9 digs.
Hiram had one of its best offensive performances of the year, with a season-high in kills (46) and a season-low in errors (9). Penn State Behrend (3-0) and Geneva (2-0) remain the only other unbeaten AMCC teams in conference play this season.
The teams traded points in the first set before the Terriers scored 11 of the last 12 points in the set to take a commanding early lead. Martini had 4 of his kills and both of his service aces in the set.
The second set opened up the opportunity for other players on the roster to step up, with Jack Meinert putting up his second kill of the season and adding a pair of blocks. Again, another late run (6 of the last 8 points) propelled the Terriers to a two-set advantage.
More contributions across the roster followed in the final set, with Sebastian Navarro recording his first two kills of the season and both Mitchell Ledbetter and Logan Cabrera-Rosales getting their first digs. Deubner had two kills and two blocks in the set.
Hiram will continue play on Tuesday at home against St. Vincent (7 p.m. start time).
