WILLIAMSPORT, Pennsylvania - December 29, 2023 - The frontcourt tandem of Brooke Hickman and Ava Mory combined for 18 points and 28 rebounds as part of Hiram's 53-42 loss to Lycoming on Friday late afternoon at Lamade Gymnasium.
The non-conference matchup marked the first of the Terriers' two games at the Hoops for Hounds Tournament on the campus of Lycoming College.
Despite the defeat, Hiram won the rebounding battle (48-39) and doubled its opposition in second-chance points (21-10). Hickman recorded her seventh double-double of the campaign and teamed with Mory for all 4 of the team's blocks.
The Terriers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and hung tight with the Warriors through the end of the first quarter, trailing by just 4 points (17-13). Six different Hiram student-athletes recorded at least 1 point in the period.
Hiram pulled within 1 point on a 3-pointer by Anastasia Lawler and brought it back to a 2-point deficit on a 3-point play by Hickman early in the second quarter. Maddie Rakestraw added a triple of her own before Lycoming finished the first half on a 9-0 run to take a double-digit lead.
It was competitive throughout the second half, with the Warriors outscoring the Terriers by just 1 point during that span (21-20). Hiram made it a single-digit margin on a Payton Black layup in the final minute of the fourth quarter to end the game on a positive note.
The Terriers will return to action at the Hoops for Hounds Tournament on Saturday, as they will take on Misericordia at 12 p.m. at Lamade Gymnasium in Williamsport, PA.
