SANDUSKY, Ohio - December 16, 2023 - It was a solid end to the 2023 calendar year for the Hiram women's wrestling team, as the Terriers beat Augustana (31-25) and Alma (22-21) and won multiple bouts throughout duals against Delaware Valley, Simpson and Tiffin as part of Heidelberg's 5th Annual Kalahari Duals on Saturday afternoon at Kalahari Resorts and Convention (full results below).

Mallory Chunat (136 lbs) and Allydia Byard (143 lbs) both won three times to lead the team, while Lexi Doerflinger (101 lbs), Caitlin Lewis (116 lbs) and Erika Novak (155 lbs) each won twice during the event to highlight a well-rounded effort from a team that is now 5-5 in duals this season.

Doerflinger's wins came against Delaware Valley's Jesenia Camargo by fall (2:05) and Alma's Celeste Welch by technical fall (11-0). The first-year has already won Terrier of the Week honors this season and continues to pile up victories as she gains more experience.

Lewis fueled the team in its win over Augustana, beating Anna Davison by decision (4-2). She also won against Alma's Chloe Colton by fall (2:25).

At 136 lbs, Chunat was busy with wins over Syd Tajkowski of Augustana (technical fall, 10-0), Adele Paterson of Simpson (technical fall, 10-0) and Jaclyn Dietz of Alma (technical fall, 10-0). She also lost in a hard-fought battle with Tiffin's Ariana Carrasquillo (fall, 3:25).

Novak added to her season win total with a win by fall against Augustana's Jaiden Moody (5:20) and Alma's Clara Holtry by decision (5-2). She finished the day with a 2-3 record.

Byard won by technical fall against Augustana's Lanie Cecala (technical fall, 11-0), by fall against Simpson's Mika Anderson (0:34) and by fall against Tiffin's Tatiana Bermudez (1:07) to wrap up a strong performance for the team.

Hiram will now set its sights on 2024; the next event will be on Saturday, Jan. 6 at the ESU Warrior Duals Invitational in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
