HIRAM, Ohio – November 4, 2023 – It was a special day for 11 Hiram football seniors on Saturday afternoon, as the Terriers honored the group and celebrated everything they've meant to the program: Rocky Pedro,
Umar Qasim,
Trystan Mollohan,
Terry Allison,
Raequan Davis-Hereford,
Gregory Wilson Jr.,
Chris Miller,
Dylan Baliker,
Donovan Mills,
Jairus Green and
Jalen Glass.
Each member of the group was individually escorted by parents, friends and teammates across the middle of the field prior to the game, a moment that will be remembered forever by an impactful class both on and off the field.
Hiram would lose its final game of the 2023 season, 52-13, to Wabash College at Henry Field in Hiram, Ohio. The Terriers finished the year in a positive way, though, outscoring the Little Giants by six points (13-7) in the final quarter, including a 25-yard touchdown reception from Davis-Hereford in the final play of his collegiate career.
The Terriers fell behind early, with Wabash scoring 45 consecutive points over the first 36 minutes of game time. Quarterback Liam Thompson, the reigning NCAC Offensive Player of the Year, finished 19-21 through the air for 354 yards and 3 touchdowns, along with a rushing touchdown.
The Hiram defense emerged in the third quarter, holding Wabash to just 3 points. The team forced the Little Giants to punt in Hiram territory to turn the ball back over to the offense with a quarter left in the season.
The most explosive play of the game between either team came at the start of the fourth quarter;
Sean Tejeda found
Jordan Townsend near the Hiram sideline on a 62-yard completion, which included over 30 yards after the catch at midfield. Tejeda would later get his first passing touchdown of the day on a 1-yard throw over the middle to
Jaden Jennings.
Wabash would respond with a 16-play scoring drive that took up most of the fourth quarter, but Hiram again found the end zone on the Davis-Hereford touchdown with 0:00 displayed on the game clock. It was the 10
th career receiving touchdown for Davis-Hereford, who also finished his five seasons with the Terriers with over 2,000 receiving yards.
Davis-Hereford is one of four student-athletes in Hiram program history to eclipse 2,000 career receiving yards, with Gregg Gorcica (2,585), Glenn Campbell Jr. (2,345) and Bryan Moore (2,033) being the other three. The senior's 167 career receptions are also second-most in program history, trailing only Campbell Jr. (207).
Among the other many accomplished seniors, Miller currently stands with the best field-goal percentage and extra-point percentage in Hiram program history. He is also the first Hiram student-athlete to make 70 PATs.
Baliker had the second-most tackles in the game, recording 9 tackles to finish with a season-high 80 tackles. Baliker recorded 60+ tackles in each of his three seasons with the Terriers.
Wilson Jr. finished with 100 career tackles and 2 fumble recoveries, while Glass and Allison each had over 100 tackles and plenty of tackles for loss and sacks throughout their 10 combined years with the program. Pedro added 90 tackles, 4 of which were sacks, since joining the program in 2020.
On the offensive side, Mollohan and Green both served critical roles as wide receivers, with each student-athlete recording at least 5 receiving touchdowns and 800+ receiving yards.
Umar Qasim also played a versatile role on both sides of the ball, in addition to a role on special teams.
Donovan Mills, an All-NCAC selection this past season, was a staple on the right side of the offensive line.
Hiram will look forward to the fall of 2024, when it will have high hopes for a big season under head coach
Jack Mrozinski Jr.
