HIRAM, Ohio - November 14, 2023 - The Hiram women's basketball team played at home on Tuesday for its season opener against the Fredonia State Blue Devils. The game finished with a final score of 68-59, as the Terriers fell to the Blue Devils despite a lead heading into the second quarter and a 22-point performance from junior Brooke Hickman.
The Terriers started the game strong, shooting 44% (7-16) from the field in the first quarter and carrying an 18-16 advantage through 10 minutes of fast-paced action.
Fredonia would bounce back, though, as it led at halftime by a score of 33 -27.Â
Hickman scored 18 points in the second half alone, which included numerous high-percentage looks in the painted area and 6 made free throws. Hickman also added 9 rebounds and 1 steal to start her second season with the program.Â
The Terriers also got a big contribution from their bench, with the team holding the bench point advantage in the game, 23-17.
Hiram as a team would also outscore their opposition in the fourth quarter, 20-14, but the Blue Devils hung on courtesy of a combined 40 points from Grace Alexander and Allie Wandell.Â
The Terriers will return to action on Saturday, as they face Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, PA at 2 p.m. Â
