GREENCASTLE, Indiana - November 10, 2023 - The Hiram women's volleyball team saw its season come to an end in the NCAC Tournament semifinals on Friday evening at Neal Fieldhouse, as the Terriers fought hard against DePauw but lost in three sets, 25-10, 25-9, 25-11.
The Tigers remained unbeaten against NCAC opponents this season, while the Terriers were able to turn another strong regular season into a semifinal appearance. The match marked the seventh all-time postseason meeting between the two teams, with DePauw now leading that series, 4-3.
Hiram was led by Cate Maguire and Emily Richardson, who finished with 7 and 6 kills. Brooke Fishback and Erin Burke added a combined 12 assists; Brooke Norris also had 13 digs, which were the second-most of any student-athlete in the match.
The Terriers kept pace with DePauw early, leveling the first-set score at 3-3 behind kills from Maguire and Karissa Zelenak. The Tigers would eventually find their form, though, racking up 18 kills in the set and just 3 attack errors to take the 1-0 lead.
DePauw recorded another 16 kills in the second set, a span that featured a .438 hitting percentage. Hiram did all it could on the defensive end, with Maguire and Richardson continuing to lift the offense, but the effort fell short and put the team in a two-set hole.
The Tigers replicated their success in the third set, with five different student-athletes tallying at least six kills for the entire match. The opposition's top-two setters also had a combined 38 assists in the game.
Hiram will now turn its attention to 2024, when it will return a big portion of its roster and have a chance to return to the NCAC Tournament semifinals for the third straight season. The NCAC All-Tournament Team and All-Conference Teams will be announced in the coming days.
