SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - October 21, 2023 - The Hiram women's volleyball team lost in three sets to Wittenberg on Saturday afternoon: 25-13, 25-17, 25-21.
Despite the loss, the Terriers showed improvement from set-to-set in a rematch of last year's NCAC Tournament Semifinals.
Individually, Emily Richardson had 8 kills and Cate Maguire chipped in 7 kills. Brooke Fishback and Erin Burke had 10 and 9 assists respectively, while Brooke Norris had 15 digs and Maguire had 7 total blocks.
Hiram increased its kills from 2 to 9 to 11 between the three sets, settling into a groove against a team that had played six nationally ranked opponents this season alone. The Terriers gained their first lead in the third set, 8-6, thanks to a 4-0 run.
The Tigers would hang on for the victory, even after Hiram rattled off five straight points to even the tally at 20-20. Maguire had four of her seven kills in the set.
Next up is a pair of home conference games for Hiram, as it will host Oberlin on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at 1 p.m.
