BEREA, OHIO - January 19, 2023 - Hiram lost its first road game of the season in 3 sets to Baldwin Wallace on Thursday: 25-17, 25-17, 25-12.
It was a balanced effort from the Terriers, with Jackson Deubner, Connor Tilton and Kyle Martini each recording 5 kills. Deubner also had a team-high 7 digs, while Matthew Albano tallied 13 assists.
Hiram trailed 9-3 to start the match before winning 7 of the next 11 points to cut the margin to 3. Baldwin Wallace would maintain the lead for the remainder of the set to take the early advantage.
It was more of a back-and-forth type of second set, with neither team leading by more than 2 points until Baldwin Wallace took an 18-15 lead late in the set. Five different Hiram players recorded at least one kill in the set, but the Yellow Jackets scored 9 of the final 11 points to gain a 2-set lead.
The Terriers rotated more of their players into the third set, but fell short by a 25-12 score to close out the non-conference affair.
Hiram will next host the Hiram Invitational on Friday and Saturday, a 6-match event involving the Terriers, Alderson Broaddus, Kentucky State and Adrian.
