Women's Volleyball Loses Closely-Contested Match, 3-1, at Baldwin-Wallace

Terriers Let it Slip Away After Winning Opening Set

Box Score Berea, OH  --  Sept. 7, 2022  --  The Hiram College Women's Volleyball team started quickly, winning the first set at Baldwin-Wallace on Wednesday night, 25-23, but B-W fought back to take the next three sets, 26-24, 25-22 and 25-20, in a very-evenly played match.
The Terriers hit .344 and displayed strong net defense on the way to capturing the first set. They led 16-11 and 21-16 before B-W won six of the next seven points to tie the set at 22-22.  After a tie at 23, Hiram earned the next two points to win the set.
In the second set, the Terriers built a 16-10 and 22-17 leads, but the Yellow Jackets then ran off five straight points to tie the set at 22.  With the score 24-24, the Terriers committed their 7th service error of the match and B-W took the next point to win, 26-24.
In the third set, the Yellow Jackets  built a 16-11 lead, but this time Hiram rallied five straight points to tie the set at 16.  The set was also tied at 18-18 before B-W scored seven of the final 11 points of the set, winning 25-22.
The Terriers led the fourth set, 12-9 before the teams were tied at 14 and 18. The Yellow Jackets closed out the game down the stretch scoring seven of the final nine points to earn the 25-20 victory.
Neither tem had a good hitting night.  Hiram held as slight advantage, hitting .148 to .142 for B-W.
The Terriers were led on offense by seniors Lyndsey Johns and Madison Burns and sophomores Emily Richardson and Andrya Hanmore with eight kills apiece.  Kelly Hoffman served up three aces.
Both teams own records of 3-2.  Hiram will play three matches this Friday and Saturday at the MIAA/NCAC Challenge at Trine in Angola, IN
