Women's Volleyball Sweeps Adrian (3-2) and St. Mary's (IN), (3-1)

Terriers Improve Record to 5-3; Take Two-of-Three at MIAA-NCAC Crossover

Box Score Angola, IN -- Sept.  10, 2022 -- The Hiram College Women's Volleyball squad enjoyed a double-victory on Saturday at the MIAA-NCAC Crossover event at Trine University in Angola, IN.
The Terriers came from behind against Adrian, trailing two sets to one, to win in five sets; then posted a four-set victory over St. Mary's (IN).

Against Adrian, Hiram won the first set, 25-21, thanks in part to a .216 hitting percentage.  However, Adrian captured the second and third sets, 25-20 and 25-21, to put the Terriers backs' against the wall.  But as they have done several times this season, they rallied to win set four, 25-17, behind a .262 hitting percentage.  Hiram won the deciding fifth set, 15-11.

Sophomore middle Emily Richardson again paced the attack with with a team-high 13 kill shots.  Senior right side hitter, Madison Burns, was right behind with 12 kills and added two blocks on defense.  Sophomore outside hitter, Kayla Franks, chipped in with seven kills and 20 digs on defense.  Freshman Brooke Fishback topped the team with 41 assists while freshman DS Kelly Hoffman fashioned a match-high 26 digs..

In the St. Mary's match, the Terriers overwhelmed the opponent, winning the first set, 25-14. But St. Mary's bounced back to capture the second set, 25-22.  The Terriers would not be denied a sweep of the day, taking sets three and four, 25-19 and 25-21, hitting .289 in the third set and .257 in the fourth set.

Richardson and senior middle Lyndsey Johns led the Terriers' attack, each with14 kill shots. Richardson and Burns each participated in six blocks.  Hoffman turned in a match-high 30 digs while Fishback  registered a match-high 28 assists. 

The Terriers now own a 5-3 record this season.  They return home to host Heidelberg on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 PM.
