HIRAM, Ohio - May 12, 2022 – The Hiram College Department of Athletics is excited to announce its 2021-22 induction class of Hiram's Ohio Chi Chapter of the Chi Alpha Sigma national scholar-athlete society.
"I am glad that Hiram is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma so that our athletes can be recognized for their academic achievements," Director of Wrestling Operations, Head Men's Wrestling Coach and Faculty Advisor said. "They have worked hard to be excellent students and athletes, and Chi Alpha Sigma induction is a small recognition that their efforts have paid off."
Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes college student-athletes who receive a varsity letter in their sport, achieve junior academic standing or higher after their fifth full-time semester and earn a 3.4 or higher cumulative grade point average.
Hiram's 2021-22 class features 20 inductees representing six athletic teams with an average GPA of 3.60.
Founded in 1996 at fellow North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) member DePauw University by the then-head football coach, Nick Mourouzis, Chi Alpha Sigma is the first national scholar-athlete society to honor collegiate student-athletes who have excelled in both the classroom and in athletic competition.
The organization's five main purposes are to encourage and reward high academic scholarship of college athletes at four-year accredited colleges, to recognize outstanding academic achievements by intercollegiate varsity sport student-athletes, to encourage good citizenship, moral character, and friendship among the high academic achievers in college athletes, to recognize and honor individual student-athletes, his/her team, sport athletic department, and university, and to mentor and provide leadership to other athletes.
Hiram is one of nine schools within the NCAC, 139 within NCAA Division III and 309 within the NCAA, NCCAA and NAIA with current Chi Alpha Sigma chapters.
