TOLEDO, Ohio - May 1, 2022 – Hiram STUNT earned a third-place finish at the 2022 D3 STUNT National Championships on Sunday, falling just short against the Concordia University Chicago Cougars, 14-13, in a back-and-forth, closely contested semifinal match at Savage Area.
The Terriers and Cougars got things started with partner stunts: routine two in the opening quarter, with both teams earning a point. Hiram then earned the next two points of the first quarter to take their first and largest lead of the match, but Concordia earned the final point of the first quarter to pull back within one, 3-2.
Down 3-2, Concordia Chicago quickly picked up a point in the second quarter, pyramids and tosses, to even the score at 3-all, before both sides earned another point in the quarter to head into halftime all tied up at four.
The two sides then tied on the first round of jumps and tumbles, before Hiram earned the next point to take a 6-5 lead. And after another two ties on the final two rounds of the third quarter, Hiram headed into the final quarter up by a point, 8-7.
Both Hiram and Concordia Chicago then tied again on all three points in the first round of the fourth quarter, team routines, to make the score 11-10 in favor of the Terriers. But the Cougars earned the lone point of the second round on jumps and tumbling to even the score at 11-all heading to the final fourth-quarter round.
The Terriers and Cougars both earned the first two points of the final round, again evening the score, this time at 13-13, but Concordia Chicago earned the final point to pull out the victory, 14-13, and advance to the championship game against No. 1-seeded Alma.
With the loss, Hiram wraps up their first season under Head Coach
Brittany Powell with a 7-5 record, including their first-ever win at the D3 STUNT National Championships in an opening-round matchup against the Cougars.
