Hiram Men's Volleyball Falls in AMCC Tournament Semifinal to Geneva

ERIE, Pa. – April 8, 2022 - Hiram men's volleyball dropped a tight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Tournament Semifinal game to Geneva by a score of 3-2.

The first set of the match started off tight as Geneva took a slight 12-10 lead in the middle of set one. The lead continued to grow for the Golden Tornadoes, going up 17-12 as the end of the set got closer. After a Tom Supan kill, Hiram cut the deficit to 23-20, but Geneva held on for the 25-20 win.

Similar to set one, set two started in a back-and-forth matter with neither team getting out to that big of a lead. With the score tied at 14, a kill from Kilvio Montero and an attack error from Geneva made the score 16-14. Hiram rallied, claiming the final three points after an Andrew Diaz de Padilla service ace, winning 25-22.

A 9-1 lead ensued for Geneva to begin set number three. The Golden Tornadoes' lead didn't slow down, pushing out to a 17-8 lead with the end in sight in set three. Eight of the nine final points were scored by Geneva, winning set four, 25-10.

After going up 15-11 in set four, Hiram began to come back after a Dangelo Boehner kill cut the Geneva lead slightly. Down the stretch, the Terriers tied it at 20, looking to force a fifth set. Scoring four of the final five points, Hiram won 27-25 after back-to-back kills from Boehner and Garrett Scheidegger.

In the fifth and final set, Geneva scored the first four points. Moments later, the Golden Tornadoes took a 10-7 as the end of the match neared. Two of the three final points were scored by Geneva, winning 15-12.

For the match, Tom Supan recorded 16 kills and Boehner had 12. Andrew Diaz de Padilla had 37 assists with Supan and Montero getting 15 digs. Nathan Cassell and Diaz de Padilla reached double figures with 12 and ten digs.

Boehner was named to the All-Tournament Team for his performance.

Hiram concludes the season with a 20-12 record and a 12-4 record in AMCC play. The team won six straight games to close out the regular reason where the Terriers dropped just three sets.
