ANGOLA, Ind. - April 3, 2022 – Hiram softball twice fell to the Trine College Thunder, 8-0 and 13-2, both in a run-rule shortened five-innings, in their Sunday doubleheader at SportONE/Parkview Softball Field. Hiram falls to 8-10 with the two losses, while the Thunder move to 10-9 on the year.
GAME 1: TRINE 8, HIRAM 0 (5 INNINGS)
The Thunder got things going in the bottom of the first, taking a 1-0 lead on Ashley Swartout's sacrifice fly, scoring Taylor Murdock from third to give Trine the lead.
And after the Terriers went in order in the top of the second, Trine added two more runs in the bottom of the second, and another in the bottom of the third on April Sellers' RBI single to take a 4-0 lead.
Trinity Meza relieved
Jeskari Rodriguez and got Ellie Trine to flyout to escape a bases-loaded jam and prevent any more damage, but the Thunder got things going again against Meza in the fourth, scoring another run on Swartout's second sacrifice fly of the afternoon to extend their lead to 5-0.
And in the bottom half of the fifth, Trine pushed three more runs across on Trine's two-run double and Mercede Daugherty's RBI double to finish off the 8-0, run-rule victory.
Rodriguez (4-4) took the loss for the Terriers, allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits over 3.0 innings pitched, while Meza allowed four runs on two hits in 1.1 innings pitched.
Adrienne Rosey (4-5) picked up the win for Trine, allowing just two hits and striking out eight over 5.0 innings pitched.

Giselle Bahena and Meza tallied the lone two hits for the Terriers.
GAME 2: TRINE 13, HIRAM 2 (5 INNINGS)
Though the Terriers struck first on Bahena's sacrifice fly in the top of the first, Trine quickly tied things up and took the lead in the bottom of the second.
A pair of walks put two on with just one out before an attempted double-steal and throwing error brought Amanda Prather home from third and evened the score at 1-1.
Darian Kanno got the next batter to strike out looking, but Ainsley Phillips singled, scoring Giselle Riley from third to give Trine a 2-1 lead.
Hiram then threatened to tie things up in the top of the third, as
Natalie Mallas reached and moved to second on an error and stole third, putting runners at the corners following Bahena's walk. But Lauren Clausen struck
Kylie Perez out to end the inning, and Trine put up five runs in the bottom of the frame to extend their lead.
Down 7-1, Rodriguez launched a two-out, solo shot to cut Trine's lead to 7-2 in the top of the fourth, but the Thunder answered with six runs in the bottom of the frame to extend their lead to 13-2.
Elizabeth Koch then worked around a pair of base runners in the top of the fifth to finish off the 13-2 run-rule victory for the Thunder.
Clausen (3-0) earned the win for Trine while Kanno (0-4) took the loss for Hiram.
Rodriguez led the Terriers at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a home run, while Kanno went 1-for-2 with a walk and run scored.
