Hiram Baseball Drops Doubleheader at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – April 23, 2022 – Hiram baseball lost two North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) games at DePauw on Saturday afternoon, falling in game one 16-0 and dropping game two by a score of 11-0. Both games were seven innings due to the run rule.

GAME ONE: DePauw 16, Hiram 0 (7 innings)
After a scoreless inning from each side, DePauw opened the game up with a five-run second inning. Danny Glimco hit a solo shot putting the Tigers on the scoreboard. A few batters later, Nick Nelson blasted a grand slam, giving the home team five runs.

DePauw tacked on three more runs over the next two innings, before extending their lead even further in the fifth inning.

The six-run fifth inning was highlighted by two RBI doubles by Nelson and Cameron Macon. Up 14-0, the Tigers finished off their scoring in the sixth inning with two more runners crossing the plate.

DePauw went on to win game one by a score of 16-0.

Cody Wilson, Kyle Workman and Kyle Adams all had hits in game one for the Terriers.

On the mound, Jack Longar (0-1) took the loss for Hiram. Jacob Koces pitched a clean inning of relief allowing no runs.
 
GAME TWO: DePauw 11, Hiram 0 (7 innings)
The home team picked up where they left off after game one with a four-run first frame. Evan Barnes hit a three-run home run with the Tigers starting the game out in front.

In the third frame, two more runs came across the plate for DePauw, making the score 6-0.

A five-run fifth inning pulled the Tigers away with multiple RBI extra-base hits. Highlighting the inning was a Gilmco and Danny Sheehan home runs.

Workman, Adams and Devin Houdeshell registered hits for the Terriers in game two. Connor Bansek had two walks with Chaisson Marrs adding another.

Stephen Javorek (4-4) took the loss for Hiram. Cooper Smith was the lone relief man for the visitors.

With the two defeats, Hiram now sits at 10-18 on the year and 2-10 in NCAC play.

Next up for Hiram is a doubleheader at Muskingum on Sunday, May 24 with first pitch at 1 p.m.
