HIRAM, Ohio – December 7, 2022 – Hiram played well in the critical moments of the second half to keep its perfect home record alive, beating Kenyon, 82-77, at Price Gymnasium on Wednesday. The Terriers improved to 5-0 at home and 2-1 in NCAC play.
Brodgie Gordon had 24 points – including 21 points in the second half alone – to spearhead his team to another tightly contested victory.
Ricky Esdel tied a career-high with 14 points, while
Trent Jakacki scored all 12 of his points in the first half.
"That's what got me going, my teammates," Gordon said after the game.
The Terriers led by 9 points at halftime before Kenyon went on a 17-4 run to start the second half and take a 42-38 lead. Gefen Bar-Cohen, who led the Owls with 21 points, finished off the rally with a driving layup.
"This game had a lot of high emotions, like a rollercoaster," Gordon said.
Dushawn Hill scored Hiram's next 8 points in the game to keep the margin within 2 points; the freshman out of Cleveland Heights, Ohio finished with 13 points to lead the bench. Kenyon responded with a run of its own to take a 54-46 lead with 11:57 remaining in the second half.
Gordon would take over for the last 10:14 of the game, scoring 21 of his 24 points during that span. The senior made layups on both sides of the lane, sunk a pair of three-pointers and knocked down 7 free throws to boot.
The scoring outburst was enough to fend off a Kenyon team that shot 61.3% in the second half (19-31), including 7-14 on 3-pt FG. Hiram once again dominated the boards, outrebounding its opposition, 29-22.
The Terriers will play at Oberlin on Saturday at 2 p.m. in another NCAC affair.
