HUNTINGDON, Pennsylvania - December 31, 2022 - Hiram wrapped up the 2022 calendar year with a 63-41 loss to Juniata College as part of the Comfort Inn Classic on Saturday. The Terriers opened the two-day event with a 50-44 win over Elmira on Friday.
Brooke Hickman led the team in points (10) and rebounds (9), with Maddie Rakestraw trailing behind her with 8 points and 6 rebounds of her own. The Terriers defense forced 21 turnovers and held the Eagles to a 38.2% FGÂ pct (21-55).
Hiram jumped out to an early 6-2 lead thanks to 4 points from Hickman and a layup from freshman Ava Mory. Juniata answered with a 9-0 run and eventually finished the first quarter with a 13-10 lead.
More of the same back-and-forth play ensued in the second quarter.
The Eagles led by as many as 11 points before the Terriers went on an 8-0 run heading into the half. Iyana Smith scored for the first time since Nov. 11 on a layup with 28 seconds remaining to make the deficit 27-23.
Juniata took control in the second half, outscoring Hiram in the third and fourth quarters to reclaim their double-digit lead. Haily Sherman led the Eagles with a game-high 16 points on 6-10 shooting from the field.
The Terriers fought hard on the offensive end by drawing contact and earning 29 trips to the free-throw line (went 17-29). The offense also tallied 16 points off turnovers.
