HIRAM, Ohio - December 1, 2022 - Hiram put together one of its best halves of the season to come from behind and beat Hilbert, 62-52, on Thursday at Price Gymnasium. The Terriers outscored the Hawks by 17 points in the second half to erase a 7-point halftime deficit and pull out another home victory.
"I think that shows we can play through some adversity," head coach Alex Dellas said after the game.
The Terriers had one of their best games defensively, holding the opposition below 60 points for the first time this season. They held Hilbert to a 25% FG pct and forced 20 turnovers.
"Our defensive effort throughout the third and fourth quarter was better," Dellas said of the team's development in the early stages of the season. "It was exciting to see deflections, steals and blocked shots."
Jocelyn Janda and Ava Mory spearheaded the defense with 4 and 3 steals respectively. Brooke Hickman also picked up a pair of blocks to add to her team-leading total of 13.
"I think Ava Mory did a great job defensively on the ball and in help-side rotations," Dellas said.
Mory (12) and Hickman (14) combined for 26 rebounds on the evening, with Hickman also recording a game-high 20 points and her 4th double-double this season. Janda tallied 16 points in her second start with the team.
Hiram scored 21 points in both the third and fourth quarters after trailing 27-20 at the intermission. It shot nearly 50% (14-29, 48%) in the second half to move one win closer to a .500 record.
The team rang the bell outside Price Gymnasium following the game to celebrate the victory.
"They really love each other," Dellas said of the team's chemistry. "It's really a fun group to be around."
The Terriers continue play on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Mount Aloysius from Price Gymnasium.
