Box Score Springfield, OH - November 4, 2022Â --Â The Women's Volleyball team overcame a first-set loss to Oberlin in the first-round of the NCAC tournament this afternoon, winning the next three sets to advance, 23-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-22.
The Terriers didn't get on track in the opening set, falling behind 4-1 and 11-6 before taking a 16-13 lead on kills from
Andrya Hanmore, Maddie Burns and two from
Emily Richardson, plus a service ace from Kenzie Brannon. The set was tied at 19 and 23, but Oberlin closed the set with two kill shots, 25-23.
The second set started like the first with Oberlin on top, 4-1, 8-5, 12-9, 14-11 and 15-12. But the Terriers bounced back. After a tie at 17, Hiram captured 8-of-the-last-11 points, including a pair of kills from Hanmore, one from
Kayla Franks and the set point kill shot from Richardson, 25-20.
After a 5-5 start in set #3, Hiram took over, winning 20-of-the-last-29 points. After Oberlin came within six at 20-14, the Terriers closed it out with the final five points, including kills from Burns and
Mary Landis, 25-14.
Leading two sets to one, Hiram fell behind, 10-7, in the fourth set, before tying the set at 10, 11 and 12. Hiram moved ahead, 19-15, but Oberlin came back to within one at 20-19. The Terriers won five-of-the-last-eight points, four coming from two kills from Richardson, and one each from Hanmore and
Cate Maguire, 25-22.
Richardson led the offense with a dozen kill shots, followed by Brannon with 10 and Hanmore with eight. Richardson also led the team with four blocks. Landis served up a match-high three aces while Brannon gathered a match-high 28 digs. Brooke Fishback accumulated 25 assists.
Hiram takes a 14-12 overall record into the match with DePauw.   . . .    Â
