Hiram, OH -- October 4, 2022Â --Â The Women's Volleyball team ended a four-match skid in sparkling fashion on Tuesday evening, defeating North Coast Athletic Conference opponent Kenyon in straight sets, 25-18, 25-21, 25-17.
In the first set, the score was tied nine times, the last of which was at 14-14. With Hiram leading, 19-18, the Terriers won the final six points of the set to sprint away for the 25-18 win. During that six-point run, sophomore middle
Cate Maguire pounded three kill shots.
The second set was even closer than the first. The score was tied eight times and the lead changed hands three times. With the score tied at 21-all, the Terriers again closed strong with four straight points to capture the set.
The Terriers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the third set, forcing an early timeout by the Owls. In the opening six points, freshman outside hitter
Brooke Norris served two aces and junior outside hitter
Madison Burns smashed two kill shots. Hiram led comfortably for most of the set, building up to a nine-point lead at 23-14. The Terriers collected 16 kills in the set and 45 in the match while hitting .245 as a team. Kenyon was limited to a hitting percentage of .076.
Norris enjoyed one her finest matches, leading the team with 10 kill shots, a whopping five service aces,14 digs and accounting for a match-high 15 points. Hiram's 45 kills more than doubled Kenyon's 22. This was night when the kill shots were spread evenly among the Terriers, with sophomore outside hitter
Andrya Hanmore coming up with nine kills (while hitting .360), Maguire with eight while hitting an outstanding .467, sophomore middle
Emily Richardson contributing seven and Burns adding six more kills.
Freshman setter/DS Brooks Fishback assisted 18 times for a match-high total. Junior libero/DS Kenzie Brannon was busy in the back row with a match-high 30 digs.
Hiram now owns a 10-7 record, 1-2 in the NCAC. The Terriers will step out of conference play when they play at Bethany this Saturday, October 8, at 3PM..
